We Have Always Been on Fire

2018 | 6 min

Set in Fire Island dunes that have witnessed decades of cruising and dancing, performer Morgan Bassichis casts a spell to conjure the island’s queer ghosts into the present. Blending found footage by queer nightlife documentarian Nelson Sullivan - shot in 1976 just just before the onset of the AIDS pandemic - with Bassichis’s performance, We Have Always Been on Fire traces a queer lineage and engages with loss.
